Curling was seen as a demonstration several times at the Olympics before it finally became an official medal sport in 1998. Teams of four slide heavy stones down an icy sheet, jockeying for position in a target area, called the house. The sport is immensely popular in Canada, which surprisingly has not dominated Olympic competition as it has other international events. That’s one of the storylines to follow in Torino.
