New Zealand’s Olympic curling team has tasted success prior to the 2006 Torino Winter Olympics by winning a tournament in Canada.

As a part of their preperations the the February Games, the team of Sean Becker, Hans Frauenlob, Dan Mustapic, Lorne DePape and Warren Dobson, went undefeated in winning the 32 team Brantford “Big Chief” curling tournament.

Frauenlob says the field wasn’t strong as they’ll see at the Olympics, but it gives them a good benchmark of where they’re at with a month to go to the Games.

The team now travels to Winnipeg, Canada for the 450 team MCA tournament, and will then travel to Karuizawa, Japan to compete in an invitational tournament before proceeding to Torino.
